If you look at the bright side, there were quite a few major hits that Indian Cinema witnessed in the previous year. To name a few, Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar, Animal, Tiger 3, Salaar, Dunki, Jailer, and Leo are the biggest hits of 2023. Well, 2023 was a landmark year for Indian Cinema and especially for Bollywood. But at the same time, the industry had a few unbearable films and we just couldn’t stop thinking ‘Why did they even make this film’?

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023)

As weird as it sounds, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is probably the worst film of the year. Shockingly, a Superstar like Salman Khan had settled into this kind of film and he released it self-assuredly. After delivering numerous blockbusters and playing larger-than-life characters, audiences are disappointed to see Salman Khan doing such mediocre films as Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Dabangg 3, and Radhe.

Salman Khan has taken things and his fans for granted and it has cost his brand value. Even his last release Tiger 3, one of the most awaited and hyped films of the year, did not meet the expectations. But he can still bounce back with a well-crafted film.

Adipurush (2023)

The Indian audience and especially Prabhas’s fans had high expectations from Adipurush. It was the most awaited film of the year since its announcement. The mythological action film based on Ramayana was directed by Om Raut. Om Raut is popularly known for directing Ajay Devgn in Tanhaji (2020) which was a critically acclaimed film and a massive hit.

But Adipurush emerged as a big box office bomb upon its release. The VFX, CNG, and graphics were highly criticized as well as the screenplay and dialogues. Upon its release, Adipurush attracted a lot of controversies. The film starred Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage among others. Made on a budget of 600+ crores, the film was produced by Bhushan Kumar.

Gadar 2 (2023)

Gadar 2 is a sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is considered a cult film and one of the most popular films in the history of Indian Cinema. Owning the popularity, Gadar 2 carried an unthinkable hype and what it did at the box office was surprising for the entire India.

Gadar 2 grossed over 500 Crores at the domestic box office and is one of the highest-grossing Hindi films ever. Though Gadar 2 comes from a popular franchise but it was an illogical movie. The movie was tall on old-school drama, illogical fight scenes, and absurd dialogues.

Fighter (2024)

Probably the biggest film release of 2024 from Bollywood. Fighter was a much-hyped film since it starred Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone together for the first time. Fighter is directed by Pathaan fame Sidharth Anand. The action film is inspired by the true events of the 2019 Balakot air strike carried out by the Indian Air Force against terrorists in Pakistan.

However, Fighter (2024) is a modern-day Gadar 2 kind of movie. The aerial graphics and fighter jet scenes are pleasing. But again, the dialogues, screenplay, and fallacious story make it an exhausting watch. Honestly, the Indian audience is bored of the same India-Pakistan rivalry in every action film.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024)

Although the makers of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan tried hard to present a modern-day scientific action film they lacked a convincing influence with the story. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was indeed one of the most awaited films of the year. It had Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff together in the lead.

The film was helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, popularly known for directing Salman Khan in Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Bharat. But nothing worked for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The dialogues were cringe. The story got absurd as the film progressed. It is still a one-time watch.

Tejas (2023)

Tejas is another typical action war film based on the India-Pakistan rivalry. As we said earlier the Indian audience is exhausted from watching the same war set between the two nations. Tejas starred Kangana Ranaut in the lead as a fighter pilot of the Indian Air Force. Opened to highly negative reviews, Tejas was declared a big box office bomb on the first day of its release. Reportedly made on a budget of 70 crores, Tejas even failed to collect 10 crores at the box office.

Ganapath (2023)

Ganapth starring Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon, Amitabh Bachchan, and Elli Avram received highly negative reviews and was declared a box-office disaster on its first day of release. Critics highly criticized Tiger Shroff for not refining his acting skills and repeating his unnecessary shirtless actions and stunts in every film. Reportedly the film was made on a budget of 200 crores and did not even collect 20 crores at the box office.

Selfie (2023)

The remake culture in Bollywood has to stop. Every second or third Hindi film is a remake of a Malayalam, Telugu, or Tamil film. Selfie is no other as it is an official sequel of the 2019 blockbuster Malayalam film ‘Driving License’. The film is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Good News and Jugjugg Jeeyo fame director Raj Mehta. Made on a budget of 100 crores and starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in the lead, Selfie bombed at the box office sending an alarming sign to stop copying every hit film in other languages.

Shehzada (2023)

Here is another remake film that bombed at the box office. Shehzada starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead is an official remake of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Even Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo wasn’t a great film but emerged as a blockbuster because of Allu Arjun’s swaggy performance. But Shehzada looked like a poor product with absurd dialogues and illogical action scenes.

The Archies (2023)

Starring a couple of star kids, Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies carried hype since it was the debut film for Shahrukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Boney Kapoor’s daughter Khushi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda. The Archies had a big screening attended by the biggest movie stars from Bollywood but the Indian audience rejected it. It is considered one of the poorest films made by Zoya Akhtar.
