Mr Aamir Khan has finally spoken about his retirement from acting.
Aamir Khan recently attended the screening of his last produced film ‘Laapataa Ladies’. The screening was held in Delhi at the Supreme Court of India. The Chief Justice of India along with his family and other contemporaries attended the screening of the critically acclaimed film. Aamir Khan attended the screening with his ex-wife and director of the film Kiran Rao. After the screening, in a conversation, Aamir Khan spoke about his film career and revealed that he had thought about leaving the film industry during the COVID pandemic.
Aamir Khan said that during COVID he was 56 and he thought this was the last leg of his career. But now the actor is certain that he wants to make a comeback, he desires to work hard till he is 70. He will continue to do one film a year but his production company will back multiple projects and stories that he feels confident about.
Aamir Khan’s last produced film Laapataa Ladies is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. The film is directed and written by his ex-wife Kiran Rao. Laapataa Ladies was screened at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. Laapataa Ladies was released in theatres on 1st March 2024 to positive reviews and achieved decent business at the box office. The film premiered on Netflix on 26 April 2024 and received widespread critical acclaim and became one of the most watched Hindi films on Netflix. The film starred Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Durgesh Kumar among others. It is the highest critically acclaimed film by producer Aamir Khan and director Kiran Rao.
Speaking about Aamir Khan, the actor is facing immense pressure to make a big comeback. He is one of the most celebrated actors of the Indian Cinema. He has starred in numerous blockbusters and critically acclaimed films. He is the lead guy of India’s highest grossing film Dangal. The global collection of Dangal stands at 2000+ crores. But unfortunately, post Dangal his career has fall-off.
Post Dangal, Aamir Khan featured in the 2018 periodic action film Thugs of Hindustan alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Fatima Sana Sheikh. Owning to Aamir’s stardom and record, Thugs of Hindustan recorded the highest opening for a film in 2018 but received mixed to negative reviews and emerged as a box office failure. The film was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya who previously directed Aamir Khan’s 2013 blockbuster Dhoom 3. The film was produced by YRF (Yash Raj Films). During the filming of Thugs of Hindustan, Aamir Khan was the first one to realize that they were making a bad film and he expressed his sight to the director and producer. However, the makers of the film ignored Aamir Khan and continued their project with no changes. As a result, Thugs of Hindustan is one of the worst films of the decade.
In 2019, Aamir Khan was confirmed to star in the Hindi remake of the 1994 Hollywood film ‘Forrest Gump’. The film titled ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was supposed to be released in 2020 but the COVID pandemic took place. Laal Singh Chaddha released on 11 August 2022 to mixed to negative reviews and was a box office bomb. It was the second consecutive failure for Aamir Khan. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan as the female lead. Recently in an interview, Aamir Khan spoke about the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha. He blamed himself and called his performance bad which caused the failure of the movie.
From 2008 to 2016, Aamir Khan delivered numerous blockbuster films such as Ghajini and Dhoom 3 and some of the most iconic films of Indian Cinema such as 3 Idiots, PK and Dangal. But his confidence has lessened after the failure of the Thugs of Hindustan and Laal Singh Chaddha.

As of now, Aamir Khan has only one film acting wise. He is going to star as the lead in the upcoming sports drama film Sitaare Zameen Par. Sitaare Zameen Par is an official Hindi remake of 2018 Spanish film Champions. Sitaare Zameen Par is scheduled to be released in Christmas 2024. The film also stars Genelia D’Souza in the female lead and it marks the first ever collaboration between Aamir and Genelia. The film is directed by R. S. Prasanna and jointly produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao.
Sitaare Zameen Par is going to be a very important film for Aamir Khan’s acting future in the Indian Film Industry. Besides Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan is also producing an upcoming periodic war action film titled ‘Lahore 1947’ starring Sunny Deol in the lead. The film will be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
Aamir Khan as a producer is certain to bring several films and shows if the story is strong. He is also discussing several acting projects but nothing is confirmed as of now except Sitaare Zameen Par which releases this year. According to the sources, Aamir Khan will likely make a special appearance in Rajinikanth’s upcoming action thriller film titled Coolie. The film is directed by popular Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. Aamir Khan and Lokesh Kanagaraj are discussing a big project. If all goes well, Aamir Khan might do a massive action with Lokesh.
Aamir Khan’s elder son Junaid Khan recently made his film debut with the 2024 period drama film ‘Maharaj’. The film premiered on 21 June 2024 on Netflix and was a success. The film also starred Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey, Sharvari, and Viraf Patel among others. The film was directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment.
