Netflix India has presented and produced a couple of high-rated shows such as Sacred Games and Delhi Crime among others. The American global streaming company has also produced a couple of brilliant documentaries such as the House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths and four seasons of Indian Predator, all based on true crime stories set in India. Besides the Indian audience should be thankful to the creative minds on Netflix who gave a chance to several actors, artists, filmmakers, and crew who presented and produced several films that are highly celebrated.
Love Per Square Foot (2018)
Love Per Square Foot is the first ever Netflix original film and the first Indian film released directly on an online streaming platform. The film starred Vicky Kaushal and Angira Dhar in the lead. Released in 2018 as an important film for the budding actor Vicky Kaushal who today is a noted actor in the Indian Film Industry. Director Anand Tiwari along with Sumeet Vyas wrote the film as a dark comedy in 2010. However, as the script was processed it was eventually made into a romantic film. Opened to positive response, the film is produced by noted film producer Ronnie Screwvala.
Soni (2018)
Soni is among the best films presented by Netflix India and possibly one of the best films made in India. The crime drama film is directed by Ivan Ayr who spent a lot of time reading and getting more knowledge about women’s safety in Delhi post the 2012 case which gained national and international coverage and was widely discussed. Ivan Ayr spent a lot of time with real police officers before directing Soni. Soni Geetika Vidya Ohlyan and Saloni Batra in the lead roles. The film opened to widespread critical acclaim praising the story, screenplay, performance, and direction of the film.
Lust Stories (2018)
The Hindi anthology film consisting of four short films is directed by four directors Anurag Basu, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, and Karan Johar. Opened to widespread critical acclaim and was nominated at the 47thInternational Emmy Awards, Lust Stories stars Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, Neha Dhupia, Radhika Apte, Akash Thosar, Bhumi Pednekar, Neil Bhoopalam, Nikita Dutta, Rasika Duggal, Manisha Koirala, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sanjay Kapoor. A sequel titled Lust Stories 2 was released last year.
Bulbbul (2020)
Bulbbul was released in 2020 during the COVID lockdown. It was the time when everyone was at home and audiences were still getting used to online streaming or platforms. Released on Netflix, Bulbbul received a generally positive response from the audience and is considered one of the best films of 2020. The periodic horror film is directed by Anvita Dutt and produced by popular actress Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma under their production banner. The film stars Avinash Tiwari, Tripti Dimri, Rahul Bose, and Paoli Dam among others. The film proved to be a turning point for Avinash and Tripti who signed several films and web series post Bulbbul.
Ludo (2020)
This Anurag Basu directional is one of the most marvelous films made ever in India. Ludo is a black comedy crime film that was initially made to release in theatres but got released on Netflix due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The film stars an ensemble cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Pearle Maaney, and Asha Negi among others. Ludo had opened to positive reviews from critics and as well as the audience. The film was nominated for Best Film, Best Direction, Best Story, Best Actor, Best Supporting Role, and Best Screenplay at the Filmfare Awards 2021.
Amar Singh Chamkila (2024)
Released recently on Netflix, Amar Singh Chamkila is a biographical film on the life of musician Amar Singh Chamkila who was shot to death in Punjab at the age of 27. Amar Singh Chamkila was written and directed by popular Indian film director Imtiaz Ali. Imtiaz Ali is known for directing some of the best Hindi films such as Jab We Met, Rockstar, Highway, Cocktail, Tamasha, and Love Aaj Kal. However, his last few films have not done well barring Amar Singh Chamkila which received widespread critical acclaim. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra among others.
Jaane Jaan (2023)
Starring an ensemble cast of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma, Jaane Jaan is a mystery thriller film directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Sujoy Ghosh is popularly known for directing Kahaani, Kahaani 2, and Badla. Jaane Jaan is an official adaption of the 2005 Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X. Except in India, Jaane Jaan released as Suspect X in all other countries on Netflix. Opened to rave reviews, Jaane Jaan is one of the most-watched films on Netflix.
Pagglait (2021)
Pagglait is a comedy film directed by Umesh Bist. The film was produced by Ekta Kapoor and was released on 26 March 2021 on Netflix. The film stars Sanya Malhotra, Ashutosh Rana, Sheeba Chaddha, Sayani Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, and Aasif Ali among others. The film follows the story of a young widow Sandhya Giri who deals with society and relatives following her husband’s death. Sandhya Giri is played by Sanya Malhotra.
Haseen Dillruba (2021)
Haseen Dillruba is a 2021 romantic thriller film starring Vikrant Massey, Taapsee Pannu, and Harshvardhan Rane in the lead roles. The film is directed by Vinil Mathew and written by Kanika Dhillon. Upon its release on Netflix, Haseen Dillruba emerged as the most-watched Hindi film of 2021. Though the film had received mixed reviews from critics. A sequel titled Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba is set to release in 2024.

Bhakshak is a crime thriller film based on the true incident of the Muzaffarpur shelter case. The film stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sanjay Mishra, Aditya Srivastava, and Sai Tamhankar among others. The film is directed by Pulkit and produced by Shahrukh Khan and Gauri Khan under their production banner Red Chillies Entertainment. The film was released on 9 February 2024 to positive reviews.
