    Jet Set Go

    Karan Johar’s yet untitled debut directional web series is reportedly titled Jet Set Go. Jet Set Go is based on the aviation industry. The show will air on Netflix. Since Karan Johar is directing the show, Netflix has premeditated a humongous budget and production to helm the show. The filming of the show begins in February 2025 and will go on throughout the year. The series will be released on Netflix in 2026. According to the reports, three major film actresses are set to come on board to play the lead characters in the show.

    Jet Set Go is Karan Johar’s debut as a director of a web series. Previously he has produced several web series such as The Tribe (Prime Video), Call Me Bae (Prime Video), Gyaarah Gyaarah (Zee 5), Showtime (Hotstar), The Fame Game (Netflix), Bollywood Wives Season 1,2 and 3 (Netflix). Karan Johar also hosted the first edition of Bigg Boss OTT in 2021.

    Karan Johar has really performed well as a director. His 2001 directional film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is award award-winning family drama film. The film features an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukerji, and Farida Jalal among others. It is probably the biggest mainstream cast any Indian film can ever have. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is one of the most influential Hindi drama films. Upon its release, the film had widespread positive reviews and emerged as a major commercial success.

    MNIK is Karan Johar’s another directional film that is considered one of the best Indian films ever. The drama film featured Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles. She suggested and sent recommendations of several other actresses who could fit the role replacing her. But director duo Raj & DK stood with her and shot the entire series.

    After watching the show, Samantha Ruth Prabhu stated that she is grateful that the makers didn’t replace her with any other actress. She is overwhelmed after watching her performance in the series.

    Citadel: Honey Bunny is the debut of Varun Dhawan on the digital platform. It’s his first show and he couldn’t have got any better opportunity than Citadel: Honey Bunny. While it’s a debut for Varun Dhawan, Citadel: Honey Bunny is the second TV show or web series for Samantha Ruth Prabhu. She had earlier made her debut with 2021 Prime Video’s most successful show The Family Man. Directors of Citadel: Honey Bunny are the directors of The Family Man as well. This is why they decided to continue their collaboration with Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Samantha Ruth Prabhu is going to collaborate with Raj & DK for another big project for Netflix.

    The Family Man is one of the best shows available on Prime Video. It is one of the rarest Indian shows that has been accepted largely by audiences of other countries. The series was announced in 2018 and the show was shot in Mumbai, Delhi, and Ladakh. The first season was released in 2019 to an overwhelmingly positive response from viewers and widespread critical acclaim with praise for its story, direction, production, editing, and performance of the cast.     Interestingly, The Family Man was originally planned with noted actor Akshaye Khanna who liked the script, and directors Raj & DK had almost locked him as the lead actor of the show. But Manoj Bajpayee replaced Akshaye Khanna in the end due to budget restrictions. According to the reports, Akshaye Khanna had charged a huge amount and the makers weren’t ready for it. Also, with Manoj Bajpayee stepping in to do the series, Raj & DK made several changes to the script and added several new elements. Raj & DK, Manoj Bajpayee, and Amazon Prime Video had announced the series in 2018.

    The second season of The Family Man was announced in 2019 and shooting of the same began in the same year.

    The Family Man season two was released in 2021 again to a blockbuster response and became the most-watched show in just a few days.

    The Family Man season three is set to release early in 2026. The cast and crew of The Family Man have begin the shooting in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.

    Actress Ananya Pandey’s debut TV show is set to release soon

    With no theatrical film release in 2024, Bollywood actress Ananya Pandey is soon going to have two big digital releases on Amazon Prime and Netflix. The actress recently announced her debut TV show/series for Amazon Prime. The show is titled ‘Call Me Bae’.

    Call Me Bae stars an ensemble cast of Ananya Pandey, Vir Das, Varun Sood, Gurfateh Pirzada, Lisa Mishra, Mini Mathur, and Vihaan Samat among others. The principal shooting of the show began in 2023 with an official announcement in early 2024. The comedy-drama series is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Colin D’Cunha with Apoorva Mehta acting as the executive producer. The show is written by Ishita Mohitra, Rohit Nair, and Samina Motlekar.

    The TV Show is set to release on 6 September 2024. The trailer of Call Me Bae received mixed reviews. The show features Ananya Pandey as a girl from the rich neighborhood of South Delhi who arrives in Mumbai for a job at a news channel. The show will be aired in 150+ countries in English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil languages. A second season of Call Me Bae is planned which will air after 2026.

    Ananya Pandey’s second release of 2024 is a Hindi drama film directed by noted filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane. The film is titled ‘CTRL’ and is scheduled to release on 4 October 2024 on Netflix. The film also stars Vihaan Samat. The show is written by Vikramaditya Motwane, Avinash Sampath, and Sumukhi Suresh. The show is produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and Arya Menon. Vikramaditya Motwane previously directed the award-winning and widespread critically acclaimed show ‘Sacred Games’ for Netflix. He has directed and produced several critically acclaimed films and shows.

    Ananya Pandey is one of the most stunning young actresses in Bollywood. She has subsequently ranked in the Times’ 50 most desirable women. Ananya is the daughter of popular Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey and popular designer Bhavana Pandey.

    Kalki 2898 AD

    Nag Ashwin’s directional, biggest Indian movie of the year, most profitable film of the year, and the best Indian film of 2024, Kalki 2898 AD is set to release soon on OTT (over the top media service).

    Starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles, Kalki 2898 AD is a scientific film. The film also stars Kamal Hassan and Disha Patani in key roles. With a budget of 600 crores, Kalki 2898 AD is the most expensive Indian film ever. The film received positive reviews and widespread critical acclaim upon its release. Kalki 2898 AD became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever and Prabhas’s biggest hit after Baahubali 2 (2017). It is the first part of the Kalki Cinematic Universe. The global collection of Kalki 2898 AD stands at 1300+ crores.

The film marks the Hindi movie debut of TV actor Lakshya who stars as a lead in the movie and Raghav Juyal as the main antagonist. K was aird at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023. The film received widespread critical acclaim in the US and Canada. Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment announced the English remake of the Bollywood film ‘K’. Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment previously worked on the John Wick film.

    Lakshya’s K is set to air at Disney + Hotstar by the end of August. The film is already available on Lionsgate in the West.

    Chandu Champion

    A biographical sports drama film ‘Chandu Champion’ is amongst the most critically acclaimed films of the year. The film is directed by Kabir Khan and stars Kartik Aaryan in the lead.

    Chandu Champion is based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, a veteran and India’s first Paralympics gold medalist. The film stars Kartik Aaryan as Murlikant Petkar with Vijay Raaz as his coach Ti Ali.

    Popular filmmaker Kabir Khan who is known for directing ETT and Bajrangi Bhaijaan directed the film. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Chandu Champion received positive reviews and performed decent at the box office. It is said to be Kartik Aaryan’s career best work and one of the most inspiring biographical sports films ever.

    Chandu Champion aird on 9th August on Amazon Prime and is currently trending at the first position.

    Munjya

    A part of the Maddock Supernational Universe, Munjya is a horror comedy film directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under his production banner Maddock Films.

    Post the massive success of Stree (2018), Dinesh Vijan founded the Maddock Supernational Universe where the universe will comprise several high budget horror and supernational films. Varun Dhawan’s 2022 supernational comedy Bhediya and Munjya (2024) are part of the Maddock Supernational Universe with the newest entrant Stree (2024) that released yesterday and is set to emerge as the highest grossing Hindi film of the year.

    Munjya stars Abhay Verma, Sharvari, Sathyaraj, and Mona Singh among others. Munjya is the sleeper hit of the year. Made on a budget of 30 crores and with new actors, Munjya emerged as a blockbuster by grossing over 130 crores globally.

    Munjya is set to air on Disney + Hotstar soon.

    Bad News

    A successor to Akshay Kumar’s Good News (2019), Bad News is a comedy film directed by Anand Tiwari and produced by Karan Johar.

    Bad News stars Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri, and Ammy Virk in the lead roles. The film received mixed to positive reviews and emerged as a big success by grossing over 100 crores globally. However, the film failed to match the expectations set by Good News (2019) starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani, and Diljeet Dosanjh. Good News grossed over 300 crores globally upon its release in 2019. Tripti Dimri plays the female lead with Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk as her love interests.

    Bad News is set to air on Amazon Prime soon.

    Mr. & Mrs. Mahi

    Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is a sports drama romantic movie starring Rajkummar Rao and Jhanvi Kapoor in the lead. The film also stars Kumud Mishra, Rajesh Sharma, and Zarina Wahab in supporting roles. The film was released on 31 May 2024 to positive reviews and was a decent box office hit. The cricket drama film is related to legendary Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

    The film was recently released on Netflix.

    Ishq Vishk Rebound

    Ishq Vishk Rebound is a comedy romantic friendship film starring Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan, and Naila Grrewal. The film is a sequel to the 2003 film Ishq Vishk.

    Released on 21 June 2024, Ishq Vishk Rebound is the Hindi debut movie of Hrithik Roshan’s niece, Pashmina Roshan. The film generally opened to poor reviews and was a flop at the box office.

    Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba

    Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is a romantic film starring Vikrant Massey, Taapsee Pannu, Sunny Kaushal, and Jimmy Shergil. It is a sequel to the 2021 Netflix film Hasseen Dillruba, which was the most watched Indian movie of the year. Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba generally received mixed to negative reviews and there won’t be a third part of the movie.

  • Films That Don’t Really Need A Sequel

    The film industry is obsessed with film sequels with multiple sequels being announced and a few ready to be released soon.

    However, some iconic films don’t need a sequel

    D1 (Hindi)

    The first part of D known as D1 was released in 2006 with Shahrukh Khan as the D. D1 (2006) was an official remake of a 1978 Hindi film with the same title that starred Amitabh Bachchan as D. In 2006 Farhan Akhtar released his directional D1 with Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra. D1 (2006) was a blockbuster and received positive reviews.

    In 2011 the second part of D known as D2 was released with Shahrukh Khan reprising his role. The second part was too well received by the audience and the movie did pretty good business at the box office.

    In August 2023 Farhan Akhtar announced the third instalment of the series as D3. However, Shahrukh Khan refused to do the film, and Ranveer Singh was announced as the new D who will be succeeding Shahrukh Khan as D. Post the mammoth success of Pathaan and Jawan, SRK is looking for something big and fresh.

    The fans of SRK and the Indian audience felt that there was no need to bring the third part and that the makers should end the D series with D2 itself. Many people on social media expressed their disappointment with Ranveer replacing Shahrukh Khan in D. Though Ranveer in an interview promised to meet the expectations of fans as D.

    D3 is strictly a no from the audience. Though makers can continue their collaboration with Ranveer Singh and do the same film with a different title but not D3.

    Dabangg (Hindi)

    There is no doubt that Dabangg is one of Salman Khan’s most iconic characters. But the first part of the Dabangg series was released back in 2010. And it had opened to widespread popularity and remarkable success. Dabangg became one of the most iconic film characters in India.

    But audiences no longer desire to watch such mediocre films. The second part of Dabangg was released in 2012, again to positive reviews, and performed well at the box office.

    But the third part of Dabangg which was released in 2019 received mixed reviews and performed decent at the box office. Dabangg 3 came after Salman Khan gave some major blockbuster hits like TZH, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Sultan. Salman Khan is among the biggest stars in the country. The audience no longer wants to see him doing such mediocre acting films. Even his last few mediocre films such as Radhe and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan received poor responses.

    Even Salman Khan is keen to do high-budget films that are shot in foreign areas. He is working with big directors and has signed a couple of big films such as A.R Murugadoss’s Next, Atlee’s Next, and Vishnu Vardhan’s Next. He has been signed by big production houses.

    There is no need for another sequel to Dabangg nor do the fans of Salman Khan want him to do another Dabangg film. But the Dabangg series is preserved by Salman’s brother Arbaaz Khan so Salman might do Dabangg 4 for his brother.

    Munna Bhai (Hindi)

    Rajkumar Hirani is one of the best and biggest directors in the country. His debut directional Munna Bhai M.B.B.S released in 2003 had opened to international critical acclaim and widespread popularity. The film received an overwhelming response from the audience and performed extremely well at the box office. The film won several awards to its makers and star cast.

    A sequel of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S titled Lage Rahe Munna Bhai was released in 2006 again to widespread critical acclaim and performed well at the box office. The film series mainly stars Sanjay Dutt as a local man and Arshad Warsi as his partner.

    There is no doubt Munna Bhai is still a popular character among the Indian audience. But it is too late to make Munna Bhai 3 since the last part was released in 2006 and today it is 2024. The audience won’t be able to relate to the film anymore. It’s been nearly two decades.

    But surely director Rajkumar Hirani should collaborate with Sanjay Dutt for another such comedy film with a new star cast and a fresh story. Rajkumar Hirani is known for directing some iconic and classic films such as 3 Idiots, PK, and Dunki. He has yet to taste a flop in his film career. All of his directed films are hit or blockbusters. He is highly regarded for writing, producing, and directing films with fresh and rare stories. Aamir Khan and Sanjay Dutt are two of his favorite actors with whom he often collaborates.

    GOW (Hindi)

    The GOW film franchise is highly regarded as one of the greatest film series ever made in India. The film series received a cult following over the years and became highly popular all over the world. Part 1 and Part 2 of GOW are among the greatest movies of the 21st century. GOW was originally made as a five-hour-long movie. But no filmmaker in this world would dare to release such a lengthy film. So, the film was converted into two parts. The first part was released on 22 June 2012 while the second part of released on 8 August 2012, just a month and a half later.

    Even after a decade, GOW is still a popular film franchise. But certainly, there is no Part 3 coming nor the makers are interested in making another sequel. GOW is a classic and the second part ended in a perfect role.
