L2: Empuraan aka L2E is a 2025 action thriller film
Not many know him in northern parts of India but Prithviraj Sukumaran today is one of the most influential film celebrities in India. He is a critically acclaimed and successful Malayalam actor, producer, and director. His upcoming film L2: Empuraan is one of the most awaited films of the upcoming year.
Prithviraj Sukumaran
Prithviraj Sukumaran recently starred as the lead in films like Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire (2023) and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024). The former was a major commercial success globally while the latter was a box office bomb.
Prithviraj Sukumaran is originally a Malayalam actor. But he is now doing films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. Prithviraj Sukumaran has also confirmed the star as the main antagonist in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming jungle globetrotter action-adventure film. the film stars Mahesh Babu as the main protagonist.
Prithviraj Sukumaran has starred in and produced several critically acclaimed Malayalam films. He is the recipient of several awards including the National Film Award.
In 2019, Prithviraj Sukumaran directed a political action thriller film titled ‘Lucifer’.
L2: Empuraan is a direct sequel to Lucifer (2019) and the second part of the planned franchise.
Lucifer
Lucifer featured critically acclaimed and one of the greatest actors of Indian Cinema Mohanlal in the lead. Prithviraj Sukumaran who directed the film featured as an extended guest appearance in the film.
Lucifer featured Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Baiju Santhosh, Nyla Usha, Saikumar, and Suresh Chandra Mohan among others.
Upon its release in 2019, Lucifer received widespread critical acclaim and emerged as one of the highest grossing Malayalam films ever. Lucifer broke several records to become the highest-grossing film ever by earning over 200 crores.
A Telugu remake of Lucifer titled ‘Godfather’ was released in 2022 starring Chiranjeevi. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan reprised the role of Prithviraj Sukumaran in the Telugu film.
A second part of Lucifer was confirmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran in 2019.
L2: Empuraan
L2: Empuraan is bigger and better than Lucifer. Prithviraj Sukumaran has left no stone unturned to direct this massive action thriller film. He has brought action and stunt teams from abroad to produce this large action thriller.
Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, and Manju Warrier will reprise their role in the second part of the film. The film will feature several new characters played by new Hindi, Malayalam, and Telugu actors.
The budget of L2: Empuraan is over 300 crores becoming the most expensive Malayalam film. L2: Empuraan will be released in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.
L2: Empuraan is shot in many countries such as India, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, UAE and Italy. The film is entering its final shooting schedule in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Shimla. The film is produced by the leading production company of Tamil Films, Lyca Productions.
Prithviraj Sukumaran has confirmed that there will be a final and third part of the franchise.
