    Alia Bhatt is the undisputed queen of the Indian Film Industry. She is one of the highest paid actresses in India, one of the most successful film actresses, and one of the most gorgeous actresses in the world. Her last several films have performed exceptionally well at the box office including the female-oriented films where she played the major lead. But, her last film ‘Jigra’ was a box office flop sending shockwaves within the Bollywood industry.

    Jigra is a large scale female-oriented film featuring Alia Bhatt in the lead. The film also stars Vedang Raina and Manoj Pahwa among others. Jigra was one of the most awaited and anticipated films of the year. The film was released globally on 11 October 2024. Despite the stardom of Alia Bhatt, Jigra emerged as a box office flop after receiving mixed to negative reviews.

    Jigra is made on a whopping budget of 100 crores. The film may have flopped at the box office. But, the producer of Jigra, Karan Johar has recovered most of its budget through digital and theatrical rights.

    Jigra’s theatrical rights for the digital platform and Television have been sold for a whopping 90 crores. You heard it right. In one of the largest deals for a female-oriented film. The film will release on Netflix soon. The makers have recovered the budget but it is not a profitable venture.

    Raazi, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Jigra

    Alia Bhatt has led three big banner and high-budget female-oriented films. The three are Raazi (2018), Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022) and Jigra (2024).

    Raazi is a drama film directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar. The film starred Alia Bhatt in the lead with Vicky Kaushal, Rajit Kapur, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shishir Sharma appearing in supporting roles.

    Raazi was released on 11 May 2018 to widespread critical acclaim and praise for its editing, direction, screenplay, story, and performance by Alia Bhatt. Raazi grossed over 200 crores globally becoming the highest-grossing female-oriented film ever.

    Following the success of Raazi, Alia Bhatt was featured in another female-oriented film. In 2022, Alia Bhatt starred in the biographical drama film Gangubai Kathiawadi.

    Gangubai Kathiawadi earned over 200 crores becoming another highest-grossing female-oriented film for Alia Bhatt. Gangubai Kathiawadi received widespread critical acclaim receiving numerous awards including the National Film Award for Best Actress for Alia Bhatt.

    Unlike Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, Jigra flopped at the box office for which the film director Vasan Bala blamed himself. Jigra was co-produced by Alia Bhatt herself.

    Alia Bhatt will be seen next in the 2025 high budget film ‘Alpha’. It is her fourth female-oriented film. Alpha is a high-budget film and a part of the YRF Universe. The film also stars Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol as the main antagonist.

    Now after working in the Indian Film Industry for more than a decade, Alia Bhatt has vindicated her position in the industry with quite a few big hits and incredible acting performance. She has an amazing film line-up to follow.

    In 1999 Alia Bhatt made a small appearance as a child role in the 1999 film Sangharsh. She made her acting debut as a lead in Karan Johar’s 2012 directional ‘Student of The Year’. Upon its release, Raazi received universal critical acclaim and grossed nearly 200 crores globally making it the highest-grossing Indian film with a female protagonist. The film won several awards. It also starred Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Rajit Kapur among others.

    Alia Bhatt and noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborated on a biographical drama film titled ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. The film starred Alia Bhatt in the lead with Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles, and Ajay Devgn in a special appearance. Gangubai Kathiawadi met widespread critical acclaim and emerged as a major commercial success. Alia Bhatt was highly praised for her acting performance and she won several awards including the National Film Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

    The YRF production recently announced Alia Bhatt as the newest entrant in the YRF Universe. The YRF Universe is a popular film franchise in India and the biggest film franchise in Bollywood. The YRF Universe has produced films such as ETT, TZH, T3, Pathaan, and W1. Presently the YRF has roped in Alia Bhatt for their first ever female stunt film. The film is titled ‘Alpha’ and it also stars Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Alpha is currently under production and is slated to release in 2025.

    Besides Alpha, Alia Bhatt is confirmed to play the female lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next titled ‘L & W’.
