    The choice for horror comedy films has mounted post since 2022. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which was released in 2022 was a major commercial success. Whereas in 2024 horror films like Shaitaan, Munjya, and Stree 2 were major commercial hits at the box office, especially Stree 2 which is now the highest-grossing Hindi film ever by earning over 560+ crores. While the third sequel of Bhool Bhulaiyaa releases soon.

    Stree

    Released in 2018, Stree is highly regarded as the best Hindi horror comedy film ever. The film starred an ensemble cast of Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee. Stree was written by the popular director duo Raj & DK. The film is directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

    Upon its release, Stree was a major commercial success earning over 200 crores. The film received positive reviews as it came up with a new and diverse concept of revulsion. The film proved to be a breakthrough for Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana.

    Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

    Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was Bollywood’s first major commercial success in 2022. The horror comedy film came as a blessing for Indians to enjoy some time at the theaters. The film starred Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu in the lead roles. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 received mixed to positive reviews from critics. However, the film managed to earn over 250 crores globally.

    A sequel of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 titled Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is set to release in November 2024. The film stars Kartik Aaryan with Tripti Dimri, Madhuri Dixit, and Vidya Balan among others.

    Bhediya

    Bhediya is one of the wittiest horror comedy films one can watch. The film stars an ensemble cast of Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Banerjee, and Kriti Sanon. The best thing about Bhediya is the comic timing of Varun Dhawan and Abhishek Banerjee. The VFX and graphics are wonderful too.

    Bhediya was released in 2022 to positive reviews but couldn’t perform well at the box office. However, the film found the acceptance of the audience on digital platforms. Its sequel is set to release in 2025 or 2026 and is expected to emerge as a major commercial success.

    Stree 2

    Stree 2 is a record-breaking success. Nobody in India would have imagined that a horror comedy film like Stree 2 would happen to be the highest-grossing Hindi film ever. The film was released on 15th August 2024 to highly positive reviews. Stree 2 was one of the most awaited sequels. The film has beaten the lifetime collection of films like Animal, Gadar 2, and Pathaan. Now, Stree 2 is eying to cross the lifetime collection of Jawan and emerge as the highest-grossing Hindi film ever.

    Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee reprise their role in the film. A third part of the film is planned and a standalone horror film Shraddha Kapoor is planned too.

    Go Goa Gone

    Go Goa Gone was directed by Raj & DK and was released in 2013 to mixed to positive reviews. The film achieved decent business at the box office but the film has received a cult status over the years.

    The film starred Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari, and Puja Gupta. A sequel of Go Goa Gone is under production. In 2013.

    Golmaal Again

    Golmaal Again is more focused on comedy rather than horror. But you can surely watch and enjoy this epic film directed by Rohit Shetty. It is the fourth installment of the Golmaal film series. Golmaal is one of the biggest comedy movie franchises in India.

    The film stars an ensemble cast of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Kunal Khemu, Shreyas Talpade, Sanjay Mishra, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Johnny Lever and Mukesh Tiwari among others.

    Golmaal Again received mixed to positive reviews from critics. But overall, the audience enjoyed the film as it was one of the biggest hits of 2017. Golmaal 5 is planned with all the actors reprising their roles.

    Munjya

    Munjya is nice and entertaining. It doesn’t have a big or popular star cast. Yet the film managed to emerge as a major commercial success because the audience wholeheartedly enjoyed the film.

    The film stars new and young actors Abhay Verma and Sharvari. Baahubali fame Sathyaraj who played the role of Kataapa appears in a key role in the film. The film also stars Mona Singh and Suhas Joshi.

    The film is directed and produced by the makers of Bhediya, Stree, and Stree 2. According to the makers, Munjya was made on a small budget but the VFX and graphics were extremely expensive.

    Bhool Bhulaiyaa

    The first part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa was released in 2007 and it was the beginning of the horror comedy genre. The film starred an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja, Ameesha Patel, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, and Vikram Gokhale among others.

    Upon its release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2007. The film has received cult status and is one of the best horror comedy films. Fans were disappointed when Kartik Aaryan replaced Akshay Kumar in the second part of the film. But, Kartik Aaryan managed to impress everyone with his performance. He is once again playing the lead in the third part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

    Director of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Priyadarshan recently announced a new horror comedy film titled Bhooth Bangla. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Asrani. The film is set to release in 2025.

    With just a little bit of experience in Bollywood, new actress Sharvari has been signed by one of the biggest movie production houses in India to feature in one of the biggest movie franchises. Sharvari certainly seems like the next big thing in Bollywood as many big filmmakers are thinking of signing her to feature as the female lead in their next films.

    A little bit about Sharvari

    Born in 1997 in Mumbai. Her father is a renowned builder and her mother is an architect.

    In an interview, the actress revealed that she has been auditioning for movie roles since 2014. Though she served as an assistant director to popular director Luv Ranjan in movies like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. She also served as an assistant director to legendary filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his film Bajirao Mastani.

    Debut as an Actress

    Sharvari finally made her acting debut in 2020 in director Kabir Khan’s directional web series The Forgotten – Azaadi Ke Liye. The show was aired on Prime Video and received positive reviews. Sharvari was featured opposite actor Sunny Kaushal whom she is dating presently. Sunny Kaushal is the younger brother of leading Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal.

    Sharvari made her film debut with Yash Raj Films, one of the biggest movie production and distribution companies in India. She was featured as one of the leads in the 2021 movie Bunty Aur Babli 2. The film also starred Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Unlike her last film, Vedaa underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews. But Sharvari’s performance was highly hailed by critics.

    As of now, Sharvari is shooting for her next big film. In 2025, Sharvari will feature in the film Alpha. Alpha is a 2025 large-scale film starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol among others. All four actors will join the Yash Raj Films’s YRF Universe.

    Alia Bhatt is the first actress who will feature in a female-led YRF film. Alpha is set to release in late 2025 and it will be the seventh film from the YRF Universe. Before Alpha, the audience will get to see W2 which will be released in mid-2025.

    Kalki 2898 AD

    Nag Ashwin’s directional, biggest Indian movie of the year, most profitable film of the year, and the best Indian film of 2024, Kalki 2898 AD is set to release soon on OTT (over the top media service).

    Starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles, Kalki 2898 AD is a scientific film. The film also stars Kamal Hassan and Disha Patani in key roles. With a budget of 600 crores, Kalki 2898 AD is the most expensive Indian film ever. The film received positive reviews and widespread critical acclaim upon its release. Kalki 2898 AD became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever and Prabhas’s biggest hit after Baahubali 2 (2017). It is the first part of the Kalki Cinematic Universe. The global collection of Kalki 2898 AD stands at 1300+ crores.

    K

    Released on 5 July 2024, K is certainly the best drama film ever made in India. The film is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar and Gueet Monga.

    K stars Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Tanya Maniktala, and Ashish Vidyarthi among others. The film marks the Hindi movie debut of TV actor Lakshya who stars as a lead in the movie and Raghav Juyal as the main antagonist. K was aird at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023. The film received widespread critical acclaim in the US and Canada. Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment announced the English remake of the Bollywood film ‘K’. Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment previously worked on the John Wick film.

    Lakshya’s K is set to air at Disney + Hotstar by the end of August. The film is already available on Lionsgate in the West.

    Chandu Champion

    A biographical sports drama film ‘Chandu Champion’ is amongst the most critically acclaimed films of the year. The film is directed by Kabir Khan and stars Kartik Aaryan in the lead.

    Chandu Champion is based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, a veteran and India’s first Paralympics gold medalist. The film stars Kartik Aaryan as Murlikant Petkar with Vijay Raaz as his coach Ti Ali.

    Popular filmmaker Kabir Khan who is known for directing ETT and Bajrangi Bhaijaan directed the film. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Chandu Champion received positive reviews and performed decent at the box office. It is said to be Kartik Aaryan’s career best work and one of the most inspiring biographical sports films ever.

    Chandu Champion aird on 9th August on Amazon Prime and is currently trending at the first position.

    Munjya

    A part of the Maddock Supernational Universe, Munjya is a horror comedy film directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under his production banner Maddock Films.

    Post the massive success of Stree (2018), Dinesh Vijan founded the Maddock Supernational Universe where the universe will comprise several high budget horror and supernational films. Varun Dhawan’s 2022 supernational comedy Bhediya and Munjya (2024) are part of the Maddock Supernational Universe with the newest entrant Stree (2024) that released yesterday and is set to emerge as the highest grossing Hindi film of the year.

    Munjya stars Abhay Verma, Sharvari, Sathyaraj, and Mona Singh among others. Munjya is the sleeper hit of the year. Made on a budget of 30 crores and with new actors, Munjya emerged as a blockbuster by grossing over 130 crores globally.

    Munjya is set to air on Disney + Hotstar soon.

    Bad News

    A successor to Akshay Kumar’s Good News (2019), Bad News is a comedy film directed by Anand Tiwari and produced by Karan Johar.

    Bad News stars Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri, and Ammy Virk in the lead roles. The film received mixed to positive reviews and emerged as a big success by grossing over 100 crores globally. However, the film failed to match the expectations set by Good News (2019) starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani, and Diljeet Dosanjh. Good News grossed over 300 crores globally upon its release in 2019. Tripti Dimri plays the female lead with Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk as her love interests.

    Bad News is set to air on Amazon Prime soon.

    Mr. & Mrs. Mahi

    Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is a sports drama romantic movie starring Rajkummar Rao and Jhanvi Kapoor in the lead. The film also stars Kumud Mishra, Rajesh Sharma, and Zarina Wahab in supporting roles. The film was released on 31 May 2024 to positive reviews and was a decent box office hit. The cricket drama film is related to legendary Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

    The film was recently released on Netflix.

    Ishq Vishk Rebound

    Ishq Vishk Rebound is a comedy romantic friendship film starring Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan, and Naila Grrewal. The film is a sequel to the 2003 film Ishq Vishk.

    Released on 21 June 2024, Ishq Vishk Rebound is the Hindi debut movie of Hrithik Roshan’s niece, Pashmina Roshan. The film generally opened to poor reviews and was a flop at the box office.

    Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba

    Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is a romantic film starring Vikrant Massey, Taapsee Pannu, Sunny Kaushal, and Jimmy Shergil. It is a sequel to the 2021 Netflix film Hasseen Dillruba, which was the most watched Indian movie of the year. Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba generally received mixed to negative reviews and there won’t be a third part of the movie.
