Alia Bhatt has signed YRF’s first female spy film
After getting criticized for her acting performance in her debut film, who would have thought that the same actress would become one of the best actors in the Indian Film Industry and presently the No.1 Female Actress in India and one of India’s biggest female superstars? That’s Alia Bhatt for you.
Alia Bhatt is presently one of the highest-paid female actors in India and the most-demanded actress. Every filmmaker wants her in his/her film. The TIME 100 recently mentioned her in the 100 Most Influential People in The World 2024.
Now after working in the Indian Film Industry for more than a decade, Alia Bhatt has vindicated her position in the industry with quite a few big hits and incredible acting performance. She has an amazing film line-up to follow.
In 1999 Alia Bhatt made a small appearance as a child role in the 1999 film Sangharsh. She made her acting debut as a lead in Karan Johar’s 2012 directional ‘Student of The Year’. The film also marked the debut of actors Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Student of The Year was a commercial success at the box office and this was the time when Alia Bhatt became popular because of her beauty.
In 2014 she was signed by Imtiaz Ali for his road drama directional film ‘Highway’. The film also starred Randeep Hooda as a gangster who kidnaps Alia Bhatt. Though the film underperformed at the box office it is considered as one of the best films of the year. The critics noted Alia Bhatt’s performance and she won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
In 2014 Alia Bhatt once again collaborated with her mentor Karan Johar. She had two releases ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and ‘2 States’ under Karan Johar’s production house Dharma Productions. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania starred her opposite her Student of The Year co-star Varun Dhawan. The film was a commercial success. But 2 States opposite Arjun Kapoor happened to be a blockbuster by collecting over 100 crores at the domestic box office. Later the actress starred in many hit films such as Udta Punjab, Kapoor & Sons, and Dear Zindagi. In 2017 she had a hit film with Varun Dhawan in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, a sequel of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
In 2018 Alia Bhatt starred as a spy in Meghna Gulzar’s directional Raazi. Raazi is a spy thriller film based around the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The film is inspired by true stories where an Indian agent upon his father’s request is married into a Pakistani family of army officers. Upon its release, Raazi received universal critical acclaim and grossed nearly 200 crores globally making it the highest-grossing Indian film with a female protagonist. The film won several awards. It also starred Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Rajit Kapur among others.
Post the COVID pandemic, Alia Bhatt and noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborated on a crime biographical drama film titled ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. The film starred Alia Bhatt in the lead with Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles, and Ajay Devgn in a special appearance. Gangubai Kathiawadi met widespread critical acclaim and emerged as a major commercial success. Alia Bhatt was highly praised for her acting performance and she won several awards including the National Film Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
The actress delivered several successful films such as Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahani, RRR and Brahmastra post the COVID pandemic and lockdown. She also made her Hollywood debut with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in Tom Harper’s directional Heart Of Stone (2023) for Netflix. Though the film met mixed response it was one of the most watched films of 2023 on Netflix with over 110 million views.

Her upcoming release is a film titled ‘Jigra’ that is slated to release on 11 October 2024. Alia Bhatt is also one of the co-producers of the film. Jigra is one of the most awaited films of the year.
The YRF production recently announced Alia Bhatt as the newest entrant in the YRF Spy Universe. The YRF Spy Universe is a popular film franchise in India and the biggest film franchise in Bollywood. The YRF Spy Universe has produced films such as Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, Tiger 3, Pathaan, and War. Presently the YRF has roped in Alia Bhatt as a spy for their first ever female Spy film. The film is titled ‘Alpha’ and it also stars Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Alpha is currently under production and is slated to release in 2025.
Besides Alpha, Alia Bhatt is confirmed to play the female lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next titled ‘Love & War’. The film also stars her husband Ranbir Kapoor as one of the male leads and Vicky Kaushal as the second male lead. Ever since the film was announced Love & War became one of the most awaited films of 2025 since it stars the real-life husband-wife duo Ranbir and Alia and it is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is considered one of the biggest directors in the country.
After Love & War, Alia Bhatt and her husband Ranbir Kapoor are expected to shoot for the second part of Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra.
