Sidharth Malhotra comes from a simple family in Delhi. His father is a former Captain in the Merchant Navy. Sidharth Malhotra started his career in the modeling industry at the age of 18. Later he moved to pursue a career in the film industry and worked as one of the assistant directors to Karan Johar on his blockbuster film with Shahrukh Khan titled My Name Is Khan.
In 2012, Sidharth Malhotra alongside other two debutants Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan starred together in Karan Johar’s directional Student of the Year. The college romantic friendship drama film received a positive response and was a major commercial success. The film proved to be a big platform for all three debutants.
Post Student of the Year, Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra starred together in the 2014 romantic comedy film Hasee Toh Phasee. The film was a decent success at the box office. But Sidharth Malhotra’s next film happened to be a blockbuster and made him one of the most promising young actors in Bollywood. The film was Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain. The film starred Shraddha Kapoor as the female lead and Ritesh Deshmukh as the main antagonist. Sidharth Malhotra’s performance in this crime thriller was highly praised. In 2016, Sidharth Malhotra alongside Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan starred together in Shakun Batra’s directional Kapoor & Sons. Kapoor & Sons received positive reviews and performed well at the box office. Released in 2016, Kapoor & Sons happened to be the last success for Sidharth Malhotra until 2021.

Post the success of Ek Villian and Kapoor & Sons, Sidharth Malhotra’s movie career observed a huge disenchantment with films like Baar Baar Dekho, A Gentleman, Brothers, Aiyaary, Jabriya Jodi and Marjaavan. The actor was under pressure until Shershaah happened to him.
In 2018, Sidharth Malhotra suggested Karan Johar to make a biopic on Captain Vikram Batra. Vikram Batra was a soldier of the Indian Army who was killed in action during the Kargil War. He was 24 years old at the time of his death. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously, the highest Indian military decoration. A biopic on him was officially announced in 2019 with Sidharth Malhotra as Captain Vikram Batra and Kiara Advani as his fiancée Dimple Cheema. Sidharth and Kiara who are husband and wife today met on the sets of Shershaah and began dating later.
Shershaah was a dream project for producer Karan Johar who invested a lot in the film. The film was directed by popular Tamil director Vishnu Vardhan. Shershaah was shot in Chandigarh, Palampur, Kangra, Kargil, Ladakh, and Kashmir Valley. The film was scheduled to release in 2020 but the COVID pandemic took place and lockdown was dispensed. Owning to the pandemic, Shershaah was postponed and in 2021 makers opted to release the film digitally on Amazon Prime Video. The trailer of the film was released in Kargil in the presence of top Indian Army officials, soldiers, the makers of the film, and the family of Vikram Batra.
Shershaah was released on 12th August 2021 on Amazon Prime Video. Shershaah received widespread critical acclaim with high praise for its direction, story, music, editing, action, and performance by the lead cast. The film proved to be career career-changing film for Sidharth Malhotra who received extensive praise for his hard work and his portrayal of Vikram Batra. By the end of August 2021, Shershaah became the most-watched Indian film on Amazon Prime. It is considered the best Indian film released during the pandemic and lockdown. The film won several awards including a National Film Award. Two years later, Sidharth and Kiara Advani who starred together in Shershaah as a couple got married in 2023 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The film also starred Shiv Pandit, Nikitin Dheer, Shataf Figar, and Anil Chatterjee among others.
Post Shershaah, Sidharth Malhotra began focusing on action films. Though he did a drama comedy film titled Thank God alongside Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh. The film was a commercial failure. After Thank God, Sidharth Malhotra is now focusing on doing action films especially military theme movies. In 2023 and 2024 he had two action films released.
In 2023, Sidharth Malhotra starred in Misson Majnu, a spy thriller film. The film was released digitally on Netflix. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna, Parmeet Sethi, Sharib Hashmi, Mir Sarwar, Kumud Mishra, Zakir Hussain, and Rajit Kapur among others. The film was a success and it received positive reviews and became one of the most watched films on Netflix.
In 2024, Sidharth Malhotra starred in an action film titled Yodha. Yodha was produced by Karan Johar and directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha. The film starred Sidharth Malhotra, Raashi Khanna, and Disha Patani among others. The film underperformed at the box office and received mixed to negative reviews.
Besides Yodha, Sidharth Malhotra starred in a web series titled Indian Police Force in 2024. The show was released on Amazon Prime Video and became a major hit. Indian Police Force starred Sidharth Malhotra, Vivek Oberoi, Shilpa Shetty, Nikitin Dheer, Isha Talwar, Shweta Tripathi, and Mukesh Rishi among others. Sidharth, Vivek, Shilpa, and Nikitin played the roles of Delhi Police Officers. Indian Police Force is a part of director Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. The Rohit Shetty Cop Universe includes films like Singham, Singham Returns, Singham 3, Simmba and Sooryavanshi. A second season of the Indian Police Force is planned.
As of now, Sidharth Malhotra has not signed any film. But he has read quite a few scripts and he is expected to announce a new action film soon. Besides he and his real-life wife Kiara Advani are discussing starring together in a romantic film.
